The Armley Mills Leed Industrial Museum
For travellers with a taste for economic or social history or technology or just an ambition to chalk up superlatives, Leeds contains a particularly inviting attraction. The Armley Mills Leeds Industrial Museum was is housed in a historical building that was once the largest woolen mill in the world. It is packed with textile manufacturing equipment, rolling stock from commercial railways, early commercial printing equipment and other exhibits on the technology that once made Leeds a leader in manufacturing.
Several exhibits that are only peripherally related to heavy industry nevertheless offer considerable interest. The Tailoring Gallery examines the process by which the textiles produced in Leeds were turned into fashionable apparel for local gentlemen, who enjoy the company of Leeds escorts during evenings and weekends. Film historians may enjoy the Optics Galleries that discuss the first motion pictures in the world, which were shot on Leeds Bridge. The museum also has its own cinema.
